Office Security

Security for Kansas City Area Offices

Whether your office is in Kansas City, Overland Park, Lee’s Summit, or Liberty, it is important to take steps to protect your property, your employees and your clients.  Offices are often in buildings with multiple other businesses and offices attached.  Many offices share a common set of security characteristics:

  • In many cases the building owner has a building-wide fire alarm or fire suppression system.
  • In some cases, entry into the building is controlled outside standard working hours

While those items simplify the security challenge somewhat, there is still work to do to provide the safest environment possible.  An office security system should take into account the following objectives:

  • Control access to valuable inventory such as cash, drugs, firearms, etc.
  • Use video surveillance to discourage crime and monitor adherence to company polices
  • Use alarms to communicate unauthorized access.

In addition to a comprehensive safety policy, physical security is an important consideration.  Many security systems for our office customers consist of the following three components:  Security Cameras, Access Control, and Burglar Alarms.

Security Cameras

Security Cameras play several important roles in protecting Kansas City area offices.  They are important in monitoring the safety of employees and can help understand to origin of accidents and measure adherence to safety policies.  Cameras are also very useful in verifying who enters and leaves the office and when.  Security cameras can also monitor access to controlled areas of the facility to determine if any unauthorized personnel are in an area.  Finally, the presense of video surveillance can help employees better adhere to proper policies and reduce fraudulent claims.

Access Control Systems

Access control systems consist of mainly card readers, keypads, or biometric devices for determining whether or not an individual should be granted access to a particular room.  Systems are normally placed at the front door of the office and then at particular rooms where valuable inventory is kept.

Card Readers have sophisticated capabilities to determine perform tasks such as:

  • Only let general employees access the office after a manager has already entered
  • Unlock reception area doors during standard business hours, but not on holidays
  • Control which employees have access to which areas and when
  • Log all of the successful and rejected card swipes

Intrusion Detection Systems

For facilities that don’t have 24 hour operations or security guards, it is often useful to have an intrusion alarm system.  This will alert personnel and the authorities in the event of an unauthorized intrusion.  These systems are usually fairly simple in that most offices have only one or two entrances and a limited number of first floor windows. Alarm monitoring for offices starts at only $21.95 per month for land-line monitoring and offices with existing security systems can often reuse those systems.
